When mounting a wheel bearing with a magnetic ABS ring (Active Sensor Bearing) it is very important to mount the magnetic side close to the ABS sensor. A small mistake can lead to a difficult diagnoses. The ASB Detector helps to prevent this.

On one side of the the ASB bearing there is a magnetic field. This field is detector by the ABS sensor to check the speed of of the wheel. Depending on this information the ABS system decides to come into action.

Besides the ABS system an increasing number of electronic systems use this information as well. This can vary from road handling safety systems as ESP and ASR to navigationsystem, which use wheel speed information to calculate where the car is 'on the map' in case of bad satellite reception.
